UAE nuclear power plant deal was made by prime contractor KEPCO and other KEPCO subsidiaries as well as cooperative firms such as KHNP, KEPCO E&C, Doosan Heavy Industries, Hyundai and Samsung with shared responsibility.
In particular, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Corporation (KHNP) is jointly participating with KEPCO in UAE business management sector and plays a leading role in operation support and partly collaborative business that offers a test-run and training course for UAE nuclear power plant employees. KHNP's principal role in each field is as follow.
Joint Project Management
- Joint partnership in project management with KEPCO is required regarding construction of 4 reactors (APR 1400) in the aspects of planning, purchasing, construction, licensing support as well as initial startup operation test.
Operation Support Contract
- Provision of training course to the employees of The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC)
- A initial startup operation test execution as well as technical support to ordering body
- Establishment of Computerized system for project management and maintenance
Cooperative Business
- Implementing Nuclear power generation specialized degree course at Institute of Applied Technology (IAT)
- Establishing a security cooperative system in UAE nuclear power plant facilities
- Building a radioactive prevention measure system in UAE nuclear power plant facilities
- Other cooperative business support for KEPCO
UAE project is making steady progress which aims to complete the construction of Unit 1 by May 2017. In order to meet the objective, initial concrete forming work is planned to be made in November 2012. Furthermore, to enhance smooth progress on the construction site, it is putting foremost effort to establish on-site infrastructure such as an architectural firm, accommodation, restaurant and religious places with the aim to complete by the end of 2011.
