The Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. (KHNP) runs 27 hydro power units throughout South Korea, and our generating capacity reaches 539.26MW. The government-owned Korea Water Resources Development Corporation assumes full control of multipurpose dams, while KHNP owns and maintains the dams for power generation. Recently, dams for power generation have been diversified to serve hydro power generation, the supply of water for agricultural and industrial use and flood control, and can be said to virtually perform the function of multipurpose dams.
The dams that KHNP manages can be divided into two categories : those in the Han River basin and those in other regions. Located on the North Han River system are the Hwacheon, Chuncheon, Uiam and Cheongpyeong dams. Dams in other regions are the Goesan Dam on the South Han River, Paldang Dam located at a junction of the North and South Han Rivers, Gangneung Dam near Pyeongchang in Gangwon Province, and the Seomjingang and Boseonggang plants in the Seomjin River basin.
