Characteristics and Mission of Hangang Hydropower Plant

  • Contributes to maximization of economic feasibility of electricity generation through optimized use of water resource.
  • As a water resource, supplies water, controls flood, and manages environment of river basin.
  • Transfers technology to small businesses, solves technical problems and develops new products via joint research.
  • Manages large riverside and workplaces across 5 Dos and 14 Sis/Guns.
    • Area of management: 20.6 million ㎡ (50% of the entire lands of the company ? 5 Dos, 14 Sis/Guns and 38 Eups/Myeons)
    • Length of the stream : 187km (39% of the total length of the Hangang River)

Operation of Dams on the Hangang River Water System

  • Operation policy: To maximize utilization of water resource and flood control capability.
    • Dry season: To secure water for generation and living by maintaining high water level (peak power)
    • Right before the flood season: To extend the flood control capability by maintaining low water level
    • Flood season: To control flood based on the restricted water level of each dam (base load)

Flood season: The potential flood damage period (Jun. 21 ~ Sep. 20)

  • Cooperation with relevant agencies in relation with management of water resources
    • Cooperation for operation of water system and control of flood <Han River Flood Control Office of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport>
    • 3 staffs dispatched during the flood period <Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters>

Operation of Dams with Power And Reservoir Operating System (PAROS)

Facility

  • Hydropower Control Center: 1 unit of PAROS
  • Power plant: Distributed Control System (DCS), Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) and remote supervision system

Function

  • Link with the data of EMS, Han River Flood Control Office, Korea Water Resources Corporation, Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology.
  • Acquire/process the floodgate data and maintain the record automatically.

Floodgate data, such as water level, discharge flow, water consumption, etc. / generation data, such as gross generation, voltage, current, etc. / meteorological data, such as amount of rainfall
